Getting started
Can you do trauma therapy virtually?
Yes! All of my work is by video, for adults in Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Florida, including EMDR therapy online, IFS and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR). If you're wondering how EMDR works over video, I walk through it step by step in Starting EMDR Therapy.

Therapy for therapists
I'm a therapist and I need my own therapist. Can I see you online?
Yes! If you live in Georgia, Pennsylvania or Florida, we can work together by video. You don't have to be in crisis, and you don't have to show up with the "right" words just because you use them all day. Fees are on my fees and superbills page: I'm not paneled with any insurance companies, but I'm happy to offer you a superbill. Reach out and we'll take it from there.

Complex trauma & C-PTSD
Is it possible to recover from complex PTSD?
I can't promise anyone an outcome or a timeline, and I'd be wary of anyone who does. What I can tell you is that the VA's National Center for PTSD reports encouraging evidence that people with complex PTSD can benefit from existing PTSD treatments. Healing looks different for everyone. We'll go at your pace, keep checking what's changing, and adjust as we go.
What type of therapist is best for CPTSD?
Honestly, there isn't one "best" type. The VA's National Center for PTSD notes that research hasn't yet settled whether complex PTSD calls for different treatment than PTSD, and the experts it cites still point to trauma-focused treatment. So look for someone trained in trauma work whom you feel safe with. For me, that's EMDR (I'm an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist), plus IFS and Brainspotting training.

Religious & spiritual trauma
Are there therapists that specialize in religious trauma?
Yes! I'm one of them. Religious, spiritual and cultic trauma is one of my specialties, and I bring both sides of my training to it: counseling, and theology (a Master’s in Theological Studies and a Doctorate in Theology). I see adults online, by video, in Georgia, Pennsylvania and Florida. If you live somewhere else, look for a therapist who names religious trauma as a specialty and is licensed in your state.
Is it okay for Christians to do EMDR?
That's a really fair question, and it's yours to answer, not mine. What I can tell you is what EMDR is: the EMDR International Association describes it as a therapy designed to help people recover from trauma and PTSD. In my sessions, it never asks you to take on or give up a belief. If you'd like your faith to be part of our work, we can bring it in, and we can talk through any worries before we start.

Neurodivergent adults
What therapy works best for autistic adults?
Honestly? It depends on you: what you want help with, how you process, and what has or hasn't worked before. I won't tell you one method is best for every autistic adult. What I do is listen to how your brain works and adapt. I'm EMDR certified, IFS trained and DBR trained, and we can mix, slow down or change course as we go. You'll always have a say in what we try.

EMDR therapy online
Is EMDR still effective online?
I can't promise how EMDR will go for anyone, online or in a room, and I won't. What I can tell you is that video is the only way I do EMDR. The EMDR International Association has published guidelines for virtual EMDR therapy, meaning EMDR led live by an EMDR-trained clinician online, not self-guided EMDR. If you're wondering whether it fits you, let's talk about it.
Can a therapist do EMDR virtually?
Yes, and that's how I work with every EMDR client. Bilateral stimulation translates to video in a bunch of ways: eye movements following dots on the screen, tapping, marching steps or bilateral sounds, sometimes more than one kind. The rest of the process (history, resourcing, a treatment plan, then processing) happens by video, too. I walk through it step by step in Starting EMDR Therapy.

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)
What is Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)?
It's a trauma psychotherapy that, in its own words, "aims to access and process traumatic experience by tracking the original sequence of physiological responses," including the shock that comes before any feeling. I'm Level 2 trained in DBR and offer it by video for clients in Georgia, Pennsylvania and Florida. More on Deep Brain Reorienting.
Can DBR be done online?
Yes. All of my sessions are by video, and DBR is no exception. We can talk it through first and decide together whether DBR, EMDR, parts work, or a mix is the right fit for you.
What does "pre-affective shock" mean?
It's DBR's name for the shock response that comes first. In DBR's words, "This shock response is called preaffective in DBR because it happens before the affective and defensive responses." Affective just means emotional: it's the jolt before the feeling.

Virtual intensives
What is an EMDR intensive?
It's an extended session of EMDR, longer than the usual 50 minutes. With me, an intensive runs anywhere from 90 minutes to 4 hours, and it can be EMDR or Brainspotting. It happens by video, like all my sessions, for clients in Georgia, Pennsylvania and Florida. We decide together whether a longer session is appropriate for you and how long it should be.
Are EMDR intensives effective?
I can't promise that an intensive, or any kind of session, will work a certain way for you. What I can do is talk it through with you honestly. An intensive is more time for the same EMDR or Brainspotting work, and we only choose one if we decide together that an extended session is appropriate for you. If it isn't, we stick with regular sessions.
How much does an EMDR intensive cost?
My intensives are $300–$800. My regular rate is multiplied by the time we choose, so 90 minutes is $300, 2 hours is $400, and 4 hours is $800. I'm not paneled with any insurance companies, but I'm happy to offer you a superbill you can submit to your insurance company. More on that on Services and Fees.

Brainspotting
Can Brainspotting therapy be done online?
Yes. It's how I offer it: every Brainspotting session I do is by video, for clients in Georgia, Pennsylvania and Florida, and that includes longer Brainspotting intensives of 90 minutes to 4 hours. I can't promise how it will feel for you, but we can talk it through first and decide together whether Brainspotting, EMDR, or a mix of the two is the right fit.

EMDR consultation with parts work & IFS
How does an EMDR consultation work?
With me, consultation is where we look at your EMDR work together, through the 3-prong, 8-phase EMDR model, with parts work generally, and IFS specifically, woven in. As an EMDRIA Certified EMDR therapist and Consultant-in-Training, I can provide up to 15 of the 20 hours required for you to become certified in EMDR. EMDRIA's own certification page explains how those hours count toward certification. We meet by video, so it works wherever you practice.
How much does an EMDR consultation cost?
Please ask me! I'm happy to share my current consultation fees when you reach out, by email or through my contact page. That first note is also a good time to tell me where you are in your EMDR training and how many consultation hours you still need, so we can talk about what would fit for you.

PA LPC supervision
How do I find an LPC supervisor in Pennsylvania?
Start with the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors, which sets the supervision requirements for LPC licensure, so you know what your hours need to look like. Then look for a supervisor whose areas of expertise fit your work and whose style fits how you want to grow. I'm happy to offer clinical supervision to LPC candidates, and if you want to chat about whether we'd be a good fit, reach out through my contact page!

Fees and superbills
How much does trauma therapy cost without insurance, and can I get a superbill?
With me, a 50-minute session is $200. If we decide longer EMDR or Brainspotting intensives are right for you, they run $300–800: my regular rate multiplied by the time we choose (e.g., 2 hours=$400). I'm not paneled with any insurance companies, but I'm happy to offer you a superbill for your out-of-pocket payment, which you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement or application to your deductible. From time to time I may have sliding scale spots, so please ask!
